The release candidate for WSUS 3 was excellent. Installed fine first time, everything worked. It didn’t even try to mess with all of my IIS sites like the beta did (which killed OWA for me).
A few days ago, Microsoft released WSUS 3. Features include:
- Upgrade from WSUS 3 Release Candidate to RTM
Lies.
Mine got 90% through the install, then failed. From the logs it looks like it got fed up of waiting for the w3 service to stop, so it just gave up and rolled everything back. Oh, when I say rolled everything back, I don’t mean to how it was, I mean to a nothing install where the RC doesn’t work either.
Then after doing a full install, the MMC hangs if I approve an update. This behaviour is repeatable.
So overall, I’m not impressed, despite the RC being so brilliant.

Robbo, why have you Hi mate, hows things? It’s Gary Courtenay, from the UKC era. Sorry to post here, but as you’ve hidden ur e-mail address so well, had no other way of getting hold of you.
You should sign-up to Facebook, I know its not ur style to sign-up to stuff like that, but it’s actually really good. I’ve only been on it for a few weeks, and have already made contact with shit loads of people from back at school, uni, old jobs, etc.
Was chatting to Amy from ur hall in the 1st year, she said she hadn’t heard from u much.
Anyway, I’m reviving the Mike Jelski for England campaign, don’t suppose you’ve still got some of the imagery we did for the campaign?
Hope alls well.
Gary
mistake at the beginning of the post there, no editing function tho, damn you!
