skate by EA is a superb game. It has everything, including an original and organic control system that makes Tony Hawk’s look and feel like a game aimed at children. The presentation is immaculate, the city is vast, detailed and believable, and the gameplay is varied. It has met with universal praise from all sides of the press, and I’m yet to find someone who tells me that they don’t like it.
All this from a brand new IP. Fantastic work EA, bravo.

All over the game the ad-boards are splattered with a gharish yellow and a logo plonked on top. The feel of the city and the immersion are lost. You can’t ride for a minute without being reminded you’re in a video game.
What really makes me angry is the laziness that has gone into these eyesores. There’s no thought involved at all. Did some marketing genius with the keys to the ad engine just throw these up in his lunchtime or was it really a considered decision to line the streets with bright yellow and logo?
I’m talking to you now EA. If you must put this sort of thing up, at least use the same marketing material that would actually appear in the media.
We paid for this game, treat that with respect. If you want to pay for a billboard then do what you want with it, but I doubt anything like this would ever get through the ‘real’ EA press office, it’s simply too tasteless.
That is quite shocking.
The few in-game ads I’ve noticed in Battlefield 2142 are much more subtle, and arguably even add to the immersion factor of the environments, since they replace overtly generic adverts with posters for genuine products but in keeping with the same style as the rest of the game’s art direction.
I think the problem with the above is as much to do with the repetition of the same image, as much as with the quality of that image itself, which is of course absolutely dire. This could be down to a kind of cold start problem with the in-game scheme - if there are only a few people advertising, the adverts will be much more saturating.
