The Best LCD Screen cleaner

Monster iClean. There you go.

Oh you want more? Ok. Here’s what else I’ve tried so far, and a review:

  • iKlear (formerly Klear Screen)
  • Generic ‘LCD safe’ alcohol wipe
  • Generic alcohol wipe
  • Water and a soft cloth
  • Continuous directed staring

Water is rubbish for cleaning these. It smears and leaves marks when it dries, just like it does on your car. You can try and polish it dry but really you’re onto a loser here.

I tried the alcohol wipes on someone else’s screen, and I’m glad I did. Horrible residue and streaks all over the place. The evaporation just leaves shiny patches behind. Avoid.

iKlear. Now we’re getting somewhere. A product designed for LCD screens. Reassuring. Nice packaging. A hefty price tag to match. “The weight is sign of reliability.” No. Doesn’t seem to cut the grease on screens and leaves you just pushing smears around until they’re so close to the edge that you can’t do anything about them. I tried this stuff on a few screens and although it seems ok on the first few applications, if the surface is actually dirty it won’t be of any use.

Monster iClean. This stuff is amazing. Comes with a nice microfibre cloth (get a larger one in Tescos for £3), and is a gel spray. This is great because it doesn’t mist and go everywhere if you apply it directly to the screen, and it won’t run like paint either. A couple of squirts will clean a 20″ monitor with ease, and a few quick wipes with the cloth will lift the solution off and leave the screen dry and shiny. I’ll get some pics up later but I’ve tried this on my MacBook and Vaio laptops, and my NEC and Samsung monitors. It works just as well on either glossy or matte screens.

It’s honestly just brilliant. I should really find an affiliate link because you have just received solid gold advice, and you should repay me for it.

Edit: Two years on and I still use this stuff, and it’s still excellent. No-one has complained.
